The Senior Library at St Catherine’s is at the heart of the school. It is used by all pupils from Year 7 to Year 13 for the purposes of reading, quiet study, co-curricular clubs, and as a social space. The Library provides resources for all senior year groups, including fiction (from classic literature to the latest Young Adult titles), non-fiction to support our subject departments and to broaden pupils’ knowledge of the world, online subscriptions to support independent research, magazines and board games. There is also a well-stocked Careers area, where pupils can access university prospectuses and information about different careers. The Librarian also runs a weekly careers drop-in session.
The Senior Library hosts many co-curricular clubs including books clubs for all year groups, a Carnegie Award shadowing group, Creative Writing Club, Scrapbooking Club, the School Magazine, and the Young Reporter scheme for the Sixth Form.
The Librarian assists Sixth Form pupils in accessing resources for their A Level coursework and for their Extended Project Qualification, as well as supporting pupils with study and revision skills. The Sixth Form also have their own library within the Sixth Form area, which holds a wide range of novels, and non-fiction texts that enable pupils to undertake wider reading for their A Levels and their University applications.
The Senior Library is used for Homework Club between 3.45pm and 5.45pm, where pupils from across the senior school can study quietly, supervised by a member of staff.
